ART

The Art education at Saint Augustine’s aims to empower pupils with a broad spectrum of knowledge, skills, and developmental opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom. These experiences will allow them to be expressive, creative and think for themselves and make independent decisions about the direction of their work.

The Art, Craft and Design curriculum is carefully constructed to allow core skills to be revisited as students grow in confidence, knowledge and understanding giving opportunities to develop personal lines of enquiry and the freedom to explore a wide variety of ideas. Through the study of art, students gain an understanding of various artistic techniques, historical contexts, and cultural significance, fostering an appreciation for diverse perspectives and creativity. Students are taught how to successfully construct a cohesive art portfolio and the importance of the key stages within this. Students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they analyse and interpret artworks and enhance their technical abilities through hands-on practice in different media.

The Art education at Saint Augustine’s also aims to promote personal growth, encourage self-expression and confidence, while nurturing emotional intelligence and empathy. With many opportunities to engage in collaborative projects and critiques, students learn the value of constructive feedback and teamwork, preparing them for a wide range of future creative explorations.
